“It is common that patients are over/under medicated and it is important for ongoing monitoring of medications because the ideal dose can change over time.”

With medication management, our providers will monitor the effectiveness of the prescribed medications, as well as the side effects (if any) and weigh the patients’ options. If the medication is not working effectively, adjustments will be made. At Soho Psychiatry, we will sometimes utilize  GeneSight test to find medications that will best work for the patient. This is a simple cheek-swab test to match specific medications that will work best based on the individual’s genetics. We like to think outside the box and based treatment on the patient’s response and symptoms not the diagnosis. Medication management is a partnership of the provider and the patient both must be comfortable and work together to be successful,

During the medication management appointment your provider will ask you questions about side effects of the medication as well as overall functioning while taking the medication. The purpose is to make sure the medication is benefitting the patient, while limiting the side effects.Call or email and speak to our office staff to learn more or schedule an appointment.

There are many reasons people do not seek treatment for their symptoms, ranging from their denial of a problem to guilt and shame to not knowing how/when to seek help. Many times a person will put themselves in treatment when they accept they have an issue and are ready to get help, but often times it happens through family and friends intervening. If you are concerned for yourself or someone you know, it is ok to reach out for help.

process of medication management

Your first step is to call us to schedule your initial appointment. Your initial evaluation session provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the provider and provide them with some background about yourself and the reasons you are seeking Medication Management Treatment. In addition to seeing if you will be a good candidate for Medication Management, the  provider will ask the patient questions about the side effects of the medication as well as overall functioning while taking the medication. The purpose is to make sure the medication is benefiting the patient while limiting the side effects. They will also be able to answer your questions regarding services, confidentiality, and what to expect in treatment. With your best interests in mind, you will decide together what kind of treatment will benefit you the most.

At the end of your first session, if you decide to move forward and work with that provider, you will be asked to schedule further appointments. At your second appointment, you will work with your therapist to set goals for your overall mental health experience and then begin working together towards achieving them.
